Minister Oğuz says more than 1000 hectares of land destroyed

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz said that three helicopters were continuing efforts to distinguish the fires.

Minister Oğuz noted that helicopters were at the scene within half an hour, stating that two helicopters and one fire fighting aircraft also carried out efforts to put out the fires yesterday.

Distinguishing efforts by the aircraft were suspended during the night.

Three helicopters, two from the UN Peace Keeping Force (UNFICYP) and one from Türkiye continued to battle the blaze in the early hours of the morning, Oğuz said.

Stating that the teams from the Forestry Department, the Civil Defence, and Fire Brigade and from the Iskele Municipality continued extinguishing efforts throughout the night, Oğuz said that along with the force of the wind the fire continued to spread.

Minister Oğuz said that more than 1000 hectares of land burned since 9 am this morning.
