Voice Kıbrıs Haber
Greek Cypriot A.S., who was detained on charges of "violating a military forbidden zone and establishing spying fittings", was brought before the Lefkoşa District Court today.
The suspect has been ordered an additional 8 days of custody by the court.
The case was reported by the investigating officer Murat Ergün and heard by Judge Hazal Hacımulla.
Greek Cypriot A.S was detected with a wireless device without the necessary registration with (BTHK) the Information Technologies Communication Institution, in a hotel room he was staying.
Photos of a military forbidden zone were detected on his mobile phone, and 9 maps with two military areas were marked.
A camera, a GPS device, a voice recording device, and along with voice recordings 21 thousand 775 data in 21 folders on memory cards were confiscated for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the lawyer of the suspect Öncel Polili complained that the detention period of the suspect was not used effectively and efficiently by the police adding that examinations of data were being carried out very slowly.
Polili also complained that, although ordered by the court, the suspect (A.S) did not receive a full health control.
Polili also defended the fact that the suspect had been questioned without the presence of his lawyer adding that the simplest rules of law had been violated.
Judge Hazal Hacımulla who read her decision after listening to the parties said that there were individuals to be identified, evidence to be examined, arrests to be made and people to be questioned.
Hacımulla ordered that A.S. remain in detention for a further 8 days, as his release could interfere with the investigation of others being sought to have a connection to the incident and also the 21 thousand 775 data needs to be examined.
Hacımulla also called for an immediate full health control and for the doctor's report to be filed among other documents of the case.
Following the detention of A.S for a further 8 days, the case will continue to be heard at the Military Court next Thursday.
