The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the European Union (EU) and especially the Greek Cypriot Foreign Ministry are the main actors in the continuation of the status quo on the island.
The Ministry announced that it outrightly rejected the decision taken at the EU General Affairs Council and the statement made subsequently by the Greek Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The explanation is as follows:
“We outrightly reject the decision taken at the EU General Affairs Council and the statement made subsequently by the Greek Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs”
“The sole purpose of the EU's decisions and statements, contrary to its principles; is to please Germany which does not comply with the Copenhagen criteria but demands enlargement and preventing the Greek veto with the intention to please the Greek Cypriot Administration, which it accepted as a member. It should also be reminded that the EU and especially the Greek Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs are the main actors responsible for the continuation of the status quo on the island. The Greek Cypriot side and its supporters are far from a correct analysis of our island and region. The experiences during the process of the Cyprus talks confirm that the negotiations have imprisoned the Turkish Cypriot People without an outcome and have led to a conclusive status quo detriment of our People” the statement noted.
