Maintenance and work of the ancient city of Soli has been completed

Archaeological sites of the Soli Ancient City and Vuni Palace have been opened to the public following 4 months of maintenance and conservation works.

The work carried out with the technical support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the financial support of the EU within the framework of the Bi-Communal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, cost approximately 200 thousand Euros.

Ali Tuncay, Co-Chair of the Bi-Communal Cultural Heritage Technical Committee said that 8 experts carried out the work.

Tuncay noted that the mosaics and floor stabilization, the reinforcement of the remnant walls, and rainwater management were carried out within the framework of emergency maintenance works in the Soli Basilica.

The vegetation was cleaned and walls were strengthened at the Soli Theatre and Vuni Palace, Tuncay also noted.

Tuncay underlined the necessity of protecting the cultural richness of the Turkish Cypriot people and expressed the need for the relevant institutions to allocate the necessary personnel and resources for the sustainable maintenance of these works.
