CMP “Permission given to two additional areas”

The Turkish Cypriot member of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), Hakkı Müftüzade, refuted claims put forward lately that Türkiye prevented the missing persons from being found. The Turkish Agency Cyprus (TAK) received information from the Turkish Cypriot member of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP), Hakkı Müftüzade on the latest statements of the Greek Cypriot Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner Fotis Fotiou. Referring to a press release issued in the presence of the United Nations on 31st July 1997 regarding the aforementioned statements, Müftüzade reminded that a decision was taken that the leaders of the two communities would not politicize the issue of missing persons. He said that despite the decision these kinds of statements have not ended. Müftüzade said that the news that Türkiye prevented the missing persons from being found did not reflect the truth adding that on the contrary from the very beginning, Türkiye has unilaterally provided every kind of support to the committee. Müftüzade announced that the work in the military zone is continuing. Müftüzade stated that in addition to the current ongoing excavation work in the military zone, permission has been given and preparation for excavation work for the two new sites, that were not on the excavation list, in the closed city of Maraş (Varosha) and the Derinya region has begun.
